Golden footprints, we are the light!

God gave me a vision during prayer of my team and I walking together on a dirt path and with every step we took our footprints were shining gold. God was telling me as we’re walking into these places during ministry we’re leaving a mark and an impact, people will see Jesus through us and we’ll shine his light. This was encouraging to hear as we were about to go on several home visits with a local pastor in the community that day. Later on that day when the local pastor was giving a message to a family at our home visit and he talked about how we are the light and we walk with joy. This was inspiring and a good reminder for all of us that we are carriers of joy and hope and wherever we go we’re shining his light.

Going into this month with encouragement from God about golden footprints was very crucial for us since this is ask the Lord month. So my team and I were praying and asking the Lord what should we do and what kind of ministries to partner with. My team and I went into this month with a yes in our spirit, open hearts, flexibility to serve wherever needed and to follow where Jesus leads us. So for our first week and a half in Nicaragua God has led us to partner with an organization called Connect Nicaragua with our host Katie. Katie and her friend Larrys started Connect Nicaragua with a purpose of sharing love, serving the poor and restoring hope with people. They felt the calling to connect people to Christ and each other. This is an amazing ministry and we were so blessed to have served with them. God is working in many ways through them. Katie is incredible and she shared with us so much wisdom and encouragement. Katie got us connected with a variety of ministries and opportunities in the community to help serve, so each day for us looked different.

We spent a couple of days visiting residents at the nursing home. It has been so nice being able to spend time with the residents and to share love and joy with them. We painted their nails which they absolutely loved, as well as conversing with them and we all shared something good that happened that day and we sang worship songs together. The residents we met were all so grateful we came to visit.

We also had the opportunity to serve with two youth programs. The first youth program we served with was called Mima. At Mima they have a feeding program and the children would learn a lot about their own rights as children and have a safe space to come. It’s a Place of refuge for them. Mima’s mission is to prevent street life. Another youth program we served with was in the Cristo Rey community. At both of these youth programs my team and I loved on these children, played games with them, helped served lunch and shared the love of God.

For one day of ministry we served with an organization called Tesoro’s de Dios to serve those with special needs. This organization is amazing. Tesoro’s de Dios is one of the largest and the only faith based organization that is free for the students. They provide horse therapy, physical therapy, cooking classes, computer/coding classes, educational classes, speech therapy and family counseling. It’s amazing how this organization supports and meet the needs of the community. They were sharing with us that the special needs population don’t hear the gospel and are considered unreached. So their heart is to share the gospel and the life changing truth of Jesus Christ with those with disabilities. I was able to help with the horse therapy by guiding the horse and help with activities with the child. Horse therapy is very beneficial to them. Horse therapy helps with balance, strengthen muscles, concentration, coordination and relationship with others and self esteem.

For a week we had the chance to do some street evangelism for an entire day. We started the morning by taking the time to pray to prepare our hearts to receive from the Lord before we went out. After prayer we made sandwiches and written out Bible verses to pass out in the community. We also did a prayer walk as we were on our walk asking the Lord where we should go and who to approach. Doing street evangelism was a bold moment for all of us and for us to grow more in being in tune with the Holy Spirit and hearing God’s voice. It was amazing listening to God as he guided us through out the day to the town square, the market and to the lake which led us to many great encounters. We got to see God move in wonderful ways with every encounter and in our still moments of prayer as a team on the sidewalk waiting to see where we’ll go next. My team and I all heard from the Lord and stepped into boldness and obedience with a yes in our Spirit.

During our street evangelism there was a moment when God told me to walk in the direction of the market. As we started walking toward the market we heard Christian music playing loudly in English. This led us to meet two Christians named Isa and Andrea. We shared stories and they were telling us how they liked to sing and play guitar. Then we started singing worship songs with them right in front of the store. Another beautiful moment was when we were heading toward the lake, Aliseya spoke up when God placed on her heart to go back the way we came to speak with a woman we past standing in front of a school. Her name was Marisa. She opened up to us and shared her testimony and we prayed for her and her daughter.  Another moment as we were walking near the lake Michaela heard from God that we will pass out the rest of our sandwiches in one encounter. A little while later we ended walking by a soccer field watching kids practicing soccer. We counted our sandwiches we had left and it was the right amount. We walked up to a couple mothers watching their kids practice and asked if the kids would like sandwiches and they said yes. A few minutes later the coaches called for their water break we ended up passing out sandwiches to them. They were all so thankful. God’s timing was perfect all day and we were in awe of God’s goodness.

God is so good. God has been opening doors for us to serve in many ways. I have been so blessed serving with a variety of ministries and seeing God move in powerful ways as well as  knowing wherever we go we leave golden footprints and we are the light.
