The Kingdom in the Sky

This month In Lesotho has been filled with wonderful encounters and amazing ministry. It’s been wonderful serving alongside Harvester’s church in the mountains in Mokhotlong. This ministry has challenged me so much and I grew a lot more in boldness. God definitely gave me opportunities that allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and experience new things. It’s been amazing to see God move so powerfully in The Kingdom in the Sky. There has been many beautiful moments of God’s wonder and joy every day. I’ve been in awe of God’s creativity and beauty in the sky while watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

At the beginning of our journey to our host location we had to stop in a city called Malealea where the guys in our group was going to have “manistry” month because the roads going to Mokhotlong were covered with snow. In the few days we were in Malealea we had the opportunity to do some amazing ministry. We had the chance to go door to door and pray and encourage the entire the village as we were doing home visits. It was awesome to share his love with many people that we met. One man we visited in particular was currently having some stomach pain. So we offered to pray for him and after our prayer we asked how was his pain level and he said it went away a little. So we decided to pray again and after the prayer we asked the same question and he said it went all the way down. We were praising Jesus that his stomach was healed and thanking God. Then Jacob my teammate shared to him that what Jesus did to your stomach, he can do for your heart. He continued to share the gospel and explained what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. Then he asked if he would like Jesus to be in his life. So he accepted Jesus in life. He said he feel so much better and happy. It’s amazing to see how physical healing led to healing in his heart and wanted to have a relationship with Jesus. So our translator led him in a salvation prayer which was amazing. Staying in Malealea for those few days has been a huge blessing. It was so beautiful and wonderful to see God move there.

Since we arrived at our host location in Mokhotlong, every morning each of us had a chance to lead a devotion at the hospital. We gave our devotions to the people that were lined up at the entrance gate waiting to be seen by the doctor. I was glad to have the opportunity to lead a devotion since this was my first time leading in this way and it was amazing. I shared the story about Jesus feeding the five thousand and I shared along with this story my testimony of how God provided for me in my life and key points from the story of God’s abundance, giving thanks, trusting in him and God’s wonder. This was a new experience for me to lead a devotion and a step out of my comfort zone. After my devotion, my sister Brittany did a salvation call and one lady raised her hand to give her life to Jesus. I am so grateful that God used me and stretched me in this way for his glory.

Also every morning we gave devotions at Harvester’s Christian school. When I led the devotion we would act out a Bible story about Jesus feeding the five thousand, then we would ask questions and sing a song. We also had the opportunity to teach. The first few days I was able to teach fifth graders phonics and other lessons. I also had a chance for them to share their favorite Bible verse or Bible story and to encourage one another. I also had them act out a Bible story as well. Another day Brittany and I taught Seventh graders homophones and math. It was so much fun getting to know them as well. Our last week of ministry we taught second graders multiplication, repeated addition and had them write sentences. This ministry of teaching has made me step out of my comfort zone even more because I don’t have any teaching experience so it has been many challenging days. It has been a very rewarding opportunity to be able to teach in the school and seeing the joy and energy in the children everyday. On our last day of teaching there was an assembly where all the children from the school met up at the church. My team and I didn’t know what to expect. But after awhile all the kids starting to sing us songs. Then a few of the children came up to say what we meant to them and thanked us for teaching them the word of God. At the end our ministry host shared a message with us then gave us all gifts. This was a very special moment for all of us and it was great to see the impact we made on these children.

My sister and I also were able to lead a couple of community outreach events on Saturday’s. It was great to fellowship and have fun with the children. One Saturday as we were walking from the church to the soccer field, more youth followed along and joined us as we walked. When we arrived to the soccer field, Brittany shared our hearts for outreach and encouraged and equipped the youth to love on the kids that come. I prayed us in and then we had them introduced themselves by passing the ball around and having them say their name and favorite animal. We went around in a circle and everyone shared what they were thankful for and something good God did in their life. Then we played more games. Throughout our time their I’ve seen so much joy in the youth. At the end they were saying they had so much fun. This was their first community event. So the next Saturday we arrived at the soccer field we started with 6 young kids and we began to play simon says. Then about 10 minutes later 32 kids showed up from the community. We started to play games like red light green light and we organized relay races. It was such a blessing to help lead the community outreach and my sister and I loved getting to know other kids in the community and loving on them.

My sister and I were able to lead a beauty for ashes women’s event. I was able to share about what determines their worth and that their value comes from the Lord and we are of ultimate worth because we are His daughters. I shared a few scriptures that speak God’s truth about our worth. I had them do a drawing activity where everyone wrote or drawn how God saw them as worthy. By the end of the activity every women heard from the Lord about how God saw them as worthy. Brittany shared about casting your cares. She had drew a cross on a big sheet of paper and we taped it on the wall with a plastic bag underneath. So she had an activity where the women could came up and drop a piece of paper in the bag with their worry or burden written on it. Symbolizing it as if they were surrendering those things to God. Everyone shared and participated. They were able to cast their burdens and worries to the Lord and find their worth in Jesus. As they let go of that worry, they replaced the emptiness that they felt and the burdens with God’s love and truth. This was my first time co leading a beauty for ashes event and it was so much fun and life bringing seeing the move God at this event.

We also had another beauty for ashes the next week and it was a celebration with the women. At the beginning of the event my team and I taught the women some common American dances such as the Cupid Shuffle and the Cha Cha Slide. We helped served a delicious traditional dinner that was prepared by the locals and we ate with the local women. Then there was a moment during the event when Brittany and I started to dance with our worship flags. A few of the women started to dance along with us with their worship flags. After a while the pastor’s wife wanted all of us to pray out loud all together during worship. Then we all came together and stood in a circle, held hands and blessed the person to the right of us. Also halfway through the night the power had went out but we still continued to dance, pray and worship. Both of these beauty for ashes event were very beautiful and powerful.

I’ve really enjoyed all the beautiful moments in Lesotho and being able to experience God’s Kingdom reign here in the Kingdom in the sky. It has been so refreshing to see God’s beauty and wonder every day as well as seeing the ministries here thriving. It’s amazing we made an impact and made a difference in people’s lives. I am so grateful and blessed to have the opportunity to serve in Lesotho with Harvesters Bible church.

  1. What a great month! I’m so proud of all the times you said YES to something outside your comfort zone. God used you in so many fun ways.

  2. So excited to see the words, “Out of my comfort zone.” In the moment, these can be the scariest times. Lots of unknowns and new things, but God uses them to stretch us and make us into something even more! Amazing that the Lord used a lot of new experiences to grow you this month in Lesotho.
